Chic on a Shoestring: Capri’s, Crops and Shorts – ABC 4.com

“Alicia Richmond with Chic on a Shoestring will tell us who should wear shorts and who should not.  If you have wardrobe questions, contact Alicia at Alicia@chiconashoestring.com

Summer Pant Definition

Crop Pants – Lightweight pant that is cut mid calf and is cut fuller through the leg.

Capri Pant – Lightweight pant that is cut between mid calf to knee length.

Bermuda Short – Lightweight short that is cut just below or above the knee.

Basic Short –  Lightweight short that is cut just below or at mid thigh.

General Rule of Thumb

- If you have short legs, be careful of Capri pants and shorts.  Often times Capri pants and Bermudas can make short legs look shorter if the hem hits at an unflattering point on the leg. A crop pant that hits at the ankle or below will shorten and widen the leg.

- Choose crop and Capri pants with a slight flare at the bottom.  No peg legs.  The flare will make your leg look longer and leaner.

- Make sure that pants and shorts are flat front with a low rise.  No pleats and high waisted silhouettes…they will add weight to your stomach and hips.  Wear a long camisole to avoid showing your tummy and behind.

- Only wear shorts and Capris if you have slim legs.  If your legs are heavy, choose crop pants.

- Wear heeled shoes with crop, Capri, Bermuda and shorts to make legs look long and lean.”

Trends/Looks to Add to Your Wardrobe!

Baby Phat RTW Spring 2009

This collections is one of the most creative and stylish I’ve seen…I love it!

Talk about hot Indian look! Both the above and below looks are so exotic and sexy! I would love to wear them or pieces from each outfit (if I dared) at least for one day! Perfect! Just perfect! I can’t say it enough! btw, doesn’t the girl on top look like a barbie!

The look above is so summer and so comfortable! I love the flow and relaxed feeling I get when I look at it. It makes me want to go on vacation!

This next outfit is a hot going out on the town look. I love how the accessories complete the look by adding the perfect flavor and the right amount of interest.

Look at that hot and classy green dress. It’s so lucious and a lovely shape!

baby-phat4-spring-09

Another native looking dress and with a little more class. Nice and simple with a patterned sleeve and belt to add interest.

A perfect finish…a lovely evening dress. Simple, sweet and sexy all wrapped into one!

I love and want it all!!!

Every wardrobe needs classic pieces… a simple dress in a neutral color, jeans, etc. However, a wardrobe without costume pieces is down right boring! Collect patterned, colorful, unique and trendy articles of clothing or accessories that mirror your taste and personality! Create an exciting and interesting wardrobe with a mix of trendy and classic. Remember, classic pieces don’t go out of style as fast, it takes about 10 years for a classic piece to start looking dated. Trendy and costume pieces can go out of style much faster. It’s always wise to start collecting the classic and then adding costume styles here and there. It’s fun discovering what you like and creating a unique wardrobe! Enjoy!

DKNY RTW Spring 2009

I love the colors and color combinations they put together in this collection.  As I analyze the pieces I am NOT taking into consideration the SHOES…although with most of these outfits I would wear skin-colored heels or sandals, but that’s just me.

Breakdown:

This first piece I absolutely love! I love the layered tops and the wide opening and buttons down on the greenish top, the details on the bottom layered top with the numbers and necklaces, which make this a great look for the TRIANGLE figure! The sleeve width and fun detail also make it a great match for this body type.dkny-spring1-09This next piece is stunning in my eyes! I love the blue jacket barely hitting her sides, the lovely scarf and long chainy necklaces. The tightness at the hips along with the loose fit above the hips makes this ideal for the RECTANGLE figure! dkny-spring2-09

This next fun little number has nice volume in both the hip and shoulder area’s with a added band in the middle which makes the waist seem much smaller in comparison. This is multi funk-ional: RECTANGLE figure can wear this and TRIANGLE figure can wear this!
dkny-spring4-09

Ok, who wouldn’t love this pink shirt with this super cool graphic! I actually like the shoes in this outfit! This outfit is purr-fect for the INVERTED TRIANGLE figure! The black graphic on the shirt along with the black baggy in the hips pants brings your eyes in towards the middle and hips creating a balanced look.
dkny-spring5-09

Alright, another favorite of mine! Striped shirts are soo in this season! Again, I LOVE the long necklaces, scarfs and flowy jacket! It probably makes sense that I love this since it’s great for TRIANGLE figures… and I guess I should mention BALANCED figures would look great in it too!
dkny-spring9-09

And the last look on the list is smashing with the long dark vest/jacket! Once again we have the lovely stripes and black skirt and don’t be surprised that both the HOURGLASS figures and TUBULAR figures can wear this hot outfit!

Wear Dresses that Flatter

Bottega Veneta Resort Spring 2009

A breakdown of the dresses:

bottega-veneta-resort3-spring-09

The above dress would be perfect for the Rectangular Figure…the pencil style skirt and roundness at the hips will add a hip shape to the otherwise hip-less body. The openness at the shoulders widens the upper body therefore creating a hourglass illusion on the rectangular shape.

bottega-veneta-resort-spring-09

This nicely patterned dress would be great on a Balanced Figure and also a Inverted Triangle Figure. Lets focus on the reasons why for the inverted triangle… the cut at the sleeves (or the sleeveless) and the neck break up the shoulder line making it appear smaller than it actually is. The shape of the skirt adds the illusion of hips making the body appear more in balance.  BONUS: if you have a long neck the cut of the neckline will make your neck appear more average in length.

bottega-veneta-resort2-spring-09This orange and white dress would have to be for the Tubular Figure. The tubular body can get away with this sort of volume in the skirt and the tight top at the same time. Although I do have to say I think making the bustline higher would be more flattering.

The black number below is great for the Inverted Triangle Figure. The pockets on the hips adds volume creating a hip line.

bottega-veneta-resort5-spring-09bottega-veneta-resort4-spring-09

This little black dress is for my kind of body type…the Triangular Figure. The  sleeve shape and the wide neckline add width there balancing out the hips. The a-line shape of the skirt conceals the hips to appear smaller then they actually are.
